The Program Release Manager is responsible for the release management discipline of program management. Specifically, this role plans the release effort and measures release progress in order to meet release schedules and budgets for major releases. This role is also responsible for managing release dependencies and contingencies, as well as ensuring efficient allocation of resources to releases. Significant coordination and control is required in order for the Program Release Manager to deliver the release successfully.
A Program Release Manager has end to end ownership for planning, tracking, controlling, reporting on, and completing a release that consists of one or a group. A Program Release Manager will manage a Business Request if it is fully satisfied by a single, major release. A Program Release Manager may also manage Work Requests fully satisfied by a single, major release.
